About Me

Hello - how very nice to meet you. Thank you for stopping by. Here are a few words about me.

Having just entering my 50th decade, I am married to Mr Thrifty and am mother to 4 rather wonderful young adults.  This blog is the showcase for my random ramblings on life - being frugal and saving money where possible, crafting of all kinds, healthy eating and other musings that occur to me. I do not seek to influence or persuade. If you don't like my blog, please don't read it. Simples!

In my paid life I am  Head of Languages at a local High School and I am a qualified Humanistic counsellor. I am lucky enough to live in the beautiful Suffolk countryside with my family and a Hearing Dog for the Deaf called Zena and a mad cat called Gomez.
The Wonderful, Awesome Zena

Zena is a flat-coat retriever/golden retriever cross and has the most amazing temperament. I lost much of my hearing through Meniere's Disease from my early 30s onwards and use hearing aids, lip reading and British Sign Language where I can. I belong to a local signing choir and have a real passion for BSL, the language of the Deaf community in Britain. Zena accompanies me everywhere, including school, and everyone adores her.
Gomez the Mad Cat
Gomez is a great mouser, but unfortunately can't distinguish between mice and rabbits............... a trait that makes Mr Thrifty's blood boil, but given the amount of road kill I see every day, I'd rather lose cars than cats. Unlike Zena, he is somewhat feisty!

In my unpaid life I spend as much time as I possibly can knitting, crocheting and sewing. I only learnt to crochet earlier this year and I am addicted. Home-made is best in my humble opinion. I try to live frugally and  enjoy being thrifty. I am passionate about up-cycling and trying to do things ethically in ways that respect our planet. I seem to spend a lot of time de-cluttering and believe that one day I will live clutter-free!

Please come in and make yourself at home. You are very welcome. If you ever pass by my little corner of the world, please come and have a cup of tea... my answer to most things!
Love Mrs Thrifty

  1. Lovely to meet you and I love how you love to do things frugally and homemade. I'm also a crocheter and I love it. I seem to have a couple of craft projects on the go at a time.

  2. Nice to meet you. I'm learning to be more frugal through need rather than choice and enjoying the challenge. I still have a lot to learn. I like to do different crafts so this year I'm hoping to make lots of Christmas gifts.

  4. Hello Mrs Thrifty

I have only been blogging since June 2013 but I find it quite addictive as well as therapeutic knowing that the trials and tribulations of life affect each and everyone of us and sometimes it is nice to share your highs as well as your lows. I having been knitting from an early age but have only picked up a crochet hook in the last two - three years and still very much a novice but enjoying learning new things. I have rediscovered my love of reading especially my older 3 children are all but flown and grown and I have a little more time on my hands. Like you I travel a distance to work and back everyday and it's nice to have somewhere to sit read and relax and see what everyone else in blog world has been up to.
