Blog friends in Real Life

Good Morning Lovely Readers

Did I mention to you that I was hoping to meet up with a couple of Blog pals while I was in Canada?Unfortunately I was unable to meet with Cindy from http://justnorthofwiarton.blogspot.co.uk/. I had no idea of just how big Ontario is (apparently the UK will fit into Ontario three times and once into Lake Ontario) and it wasn't feasible this time. I do hope we can do it another time.

I did get to meet Jane from The Maple Syrup Mob at http://swiftsuresongbird.blogspot.co.uk/  - although she didn't bring the bear with her! My friend, Ruth, works all over Ontario and had to work in Barrie one day, so Jane and I were able to meet up for lunch and a wander. Jane blogged about this a while ago: http://swiftsuresongbird.blogspot.co.uk/2012/06/friendsvegans-and-countrymen.html Barrie is located on Kempenfelt Bay, Lake Simcoe. Jane lives way over the other side of the lake - no bridge I am afraid!

You can see a picture of the lovely meal we had on Jane's blog! I should point out that we did also have pasta, but Jane wasn't impressed with me eating white bread or worse still, drinking tap water. She was very keen to point out where it had been! However, it was only recently that I read that the air we breathe has been in our planet's atmosphere since the Earth existed.... so I did point this out and ask her who had been breathing her air. Mind boggling isn't it?

I must admit I was a tad nervous before meeting Jane, but it felt like being with an old friend. We had such a lovely day and talked about so many things... I am sure we'll meet again. Maybe we get to know each other better than we realise here in Blogland. Here she is underneath the beautiful spirit catcher sculpture:
Jane from the Maple Syrup Mob

You can read all about Ron Baird's beautiful sculpture here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spirit_Catcher It really is staggeringly magnificent and makes the most amazing noises as the wind moves around the moving pieces.

Enjoy your day
Love Mrs Thrifty

  1. That sculpture reminds me of a book I read some years ago called 'The Wind Singer'.

We ate white bread yesterday while out - it was awful... Glad you had a nice time with Jane!

    1. I have to defend myself. I rarely eat white bread! I never buy it. But this was French bread (baguette type) in an Italian restaurant and they just wouldn't do wholemeal now would they lol? However, I still don't mind tap water. My kids had that book Kay, but I haven't read it - is it good? xx

  3. Hello Mrs Thrifty....great photos and how exciting being able to meet with one of your blog friends...wonderful to actually know the person now and be able to visualize her when you post.
Thanks for your comments on my last post...once of the best things of the fiesta nights is when we get to the chocolate and churros van. You need a bit of extra sugar after dancing the night away.

Ok what's wrong with white bread...I do like to eat wholemeal when I can but Sr P detests it so we usually get white.....anyhow I don't eat much bread only allowed so much and at times I forget to eat bread.

  5. I was so terribly disappointed we hadn't time to meet up between the hectic schedules. I am so certain I had myself quite worked up about it all in excitement...but alas maybe another time, or better yet I win a huge Windfall making it possible me to travel the World to meet all my Blogger friends in person. Us Pisces, we are dreamers up in that huge blue sky, are we not? LOL I even had one "Checkerboard Aussie" puppy we could have snuck back in your suitcase rather nicely he would have fit ! Loving to read all about your trip to Ontario ... xxx

    1. Me too Cindy but I had to fit in with Ruth's work schedule and I didn't have my own transport. As you say, we Pisceans dream though. Do you think I'd have got the pup through customs lol? xx

  6. What a beautiful place to meet, I can imagine you had great fun.

Speaking as a carb addict, I've got to say that I would also eat good white bread, but I would also enjoy wholemeal, granary... 'scuse me while I go and make a sandwich!

  10. I'm new to your blog today, but am now following. It's great how blogging can transform online connections into real life friends isn't it? I recently met up with two bloggers that I follow - admittedly I only had to travel into London from Suffolk - but they came from France and Switzerland.
It's a great feeling to put real faces to blog photos and develop a friendship.
I'll be popping by regularly for some frugal tips in future!
