Apologies...

My sincere apologies for my absence. My tooth abscess is finally succumbing to the antibiotics I am taking and so it is back to school tomorrow. I have felt like doing very little, including blogging, but I am back now.

My recent gifts are winding their way to their recipients and I will be posting some freebies in a day or two in time for my birthday so be sure to check in then.

My heartfelt welcome to my new followers - thank you so much for joining.

I want to talk to you about my new niece this evening. Last October, my brother and his wife gave birth to a beautiful baby girl with Downs Syndrome. She was born on my own daughter's 24th birthday. I have 5 siblings and there are 25 years between the oldest of my Mum's grandchildren and this newest blessing. My Mum is now Nana to 14 grandchildren.

I think she is absolutely gorgeous and I want to make her something very special. I have lots of ideas, but I would like to ask you for your ideas. If she were yours, what would you make? I'd love to hear your ideas my creative friends...

Love Mrs Thrifty xxx

  2. I had just came across the cutest high top knitted booties & matching hat a local lady here has been making. Nice if a pattern for something so cute could be found & made, as you do knit! Yes the birthdays are closing in on us both within days now...lol. So happy you are feeling a tad better from that nasty tooth problem ! xxx

  6. Something with a star on it as Downs Syndrome kids usually shine brightly.

  7. I made a little taggy comforter for my babe, was easy, quick and has been really loved. I used a cath kidston flannel folded & pinned ribbons in different sizes and textures into the middle and cut a fleece square the same size to make a ribbon sandwich. Sewed them together after embroidering her name to the fleece. Sounds way more complicated than it was ......I will try to blog about it! Thank you for the lovely ribbons, excitedly opened this morning x

  8. When GD was about 9 months old I started two projects - a patchwork quilt of squares from cotton clothes she grew out of (now she is 18 it is used as her comforter is she is poorly or sad) and a knitted farmyard.
All kids love tactile things - you embroider the "farm" and make a box for the animals to live in. Because they are knitted with embroidered features they are perfectly safe and machine washable.

  14. Cut e little thing, she will be a blessing to your family. We also have a hearing dog. She is the smartest thing I have ever met. Now if we could just train her to tell my husband to shut off the water! He flooded the basement because he did not hear the water running~! Ugh.

  16. A quilt would be lovely, as she is already a few months old you could ask for some of her outgrown clothes and incorporate some of the material into it, it would make a lovely thing to be used now and treasured later.
